Update on Blood City Chronicles

I made a note that Blood City Chronicles: To Live in Fear would be released in December. Here it is in January and it still hasn’t been released. I’d like to apologize for this as there has been a bit of a holdup in getting it to market. Unfortunately, there have been a couple of issues that have come up and these have kept the story from being released. For the record, the story is done. I finished writing last month and actually was on schedule, but getting it edited and released has brought forth a couple of problems that need to be addressed first.

If things continue the way they’re going now I’ll be able to have the story released at the end of the month or early next month. Once I get everything worked out, it’ll be no problem releasing anything else.

As I get things nailed down, I’ll let everyone know. Again, I apologize for the delay. We’ll get it worked out.

A New Year…Maybe Some Progress

You know, the time goes by so fast.  Last year I was prepping The Black Petal for re-release, but thinking about it, I decided that perhaps I’d just let the story stay the way it was…mistakes and all.  I don’t believe in changing things after they get released.  Sometimes we just have to accept the negatives in the narrative and fix them next time.  This is why I haven’t released the update.

That said, the next episode of the Blood City Chronicles will be released this year.  I’m almost finished with Mike’s story and it will be released sometime soon.  Maybe in the next couple of months.  I can’t even believe it’s been 2 years since The Black Petal was released.  Heh, the time really does get away from you.  Of course, being lazy doesn’t help either.  I guess that’s why discipline is needed to do this on a regular basis.  Lesson learned, I guess.

Either way, be prepared for the next story, it’s quite a bit different from the last one, as I changed up the style for Mike’s story compared to Eternal Darkness.  There is a method to my madness, however and I hope everyone enjoys it.

Well, here’s to a great 2013.  Gonna try to get better at getting these things done in some reasonable time.  Focus…focus.

Human or Standard?

While I was writing The Black Petal, I introduced a number of terms that refer to things inside the world I created.  One of the questions someone asked me was about the use of “standard” when referring to a human.  I’ll admit that I wasn’t very consistent with it’s use in the story, but I wanted to point out that the terms are basically interchangeable.

The term “standard” is considered street lingo, and is what is generally used to refer to the base human model, as opposed to elf, orc, halfling, troll, etc.  The scientific term is still “human”, however.  Which means that in terms of the overall narrative, I’ll switch between the two terms from time to time.  It pretty much comes down to how I felt at the time.  If I’m talking about humans in the scientific sense, then “human” would be the most appropriate term.

I always imagined that the origin of the word simply came from the fact that there wasn’t a derogatory word for humans, and being called a “standard” would simply mean a person wasn’t of any real significance and the lowest level of the evolutionary chain.  Over time, the term lost a lot of its sting and just became a normal part of the world’s vocabulary.  The negative origin of the term hasn’t been completely forgotten, but that’s always a matter of tone and context.
